Yup. Not only does whisky save the planet, now beer does too. Mechanical engineer Eric Fitch has figured out a way to turn brewery waste into natural gas that’s used to fuel the brewing process. Full story here.

OK, that’s a slight exaggeration.

But check this out: Scottish scientists have developed a biofuel based on by-products from whisky production! “Pot ale”, the liquid from the copper stills, and “draff”, the spent grains are used to produce butanol – which has 30% more output power than ethanol, the traditional biofuel. Butanol can also be used in conventional cars without any adaptions of the engine.

You’ve probably all seen the various USB cup warmers that are on sale. Keeping a cup of coffee warm is one thing, who knew you could also cook a steak with a USB device?

Someone in Japan did, using 30 USB ports.
(the google translate is ever so slightly gibberish at times, but you’ll get the general idea)

Ever heard of the old McDonald’s burgers people keep that never go bad? Ever wondered why? I’ll give you what I think is the most logical, fact based explanation, and I’m afraid it’s going to be devoid of any evil-meat-industry-conspiracy-theories and references to all those scary chemicals.
